Honoring 90 Years of Service: VP Sara Duterte Leads OVP Anniversary Celebration
Vice President Sara Z. Duterte arrived in Makati City to lead the historic 90th Anniversary Celebration of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) —a milestone that commemorates nearly a century of unwavering service to the Filipino people.
Established in 1935, the OVP has stood as a steadfast institution in Philippine democracy, rising through eras of war, crisis, and transformation. For nine decades, each Vice President steered the office through unique challenges, strengthening its role and expanding its capacity for meaningful, grassroots-centered public service.
A Tribute to Former Vice Presidents
In her anniversary message, VP Duterte paid homage to all former Vice Presidents whose dedication shaped the growth and relevance of the OVP.
Their contributions—preserved through stories, documents, and artifacts—highlight the power of genuine public service and the enduring spirit of leadership.
She invited the public to experience this history through OVP Pop-Up Exhibits now showcased in major cities nationwide. These exhibits serve as windows into the past, honoring the resilience, decisions, and sacrifices that defined the Vice Presidency.
As the OVP marks 90 years, VP Duterte also emphasized that this celebration is not only a look back into history—but also a bold step toward the future.
She outlined three major initiatives that will shape the next chapter of the Vice Presidency:
1. The OVP Museum
A dedicated space to permanently preserve the legacy of the Vice Presidency, ensuring that future generations can learn from its history and impact.
2. A Permanent OVP Office
A stable, cost-efficient, and accessible headquarters that will allow the institution to operate seamlessly and effectively across future administrations.
3. The OVP Charter
A legislative push to formally define the mandate, authority, and structure of the OVP—solidifying its role as a vital institution in the Philippine government.
These initiatives underscore the administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that the OVP remains a pillar of service for the next 100 years.
A Celebration of Unity and Hope
VP Duterte called on the public to join the celebration and support the continuing journey of the Office of the Vice President.
Together, she said, Filipinos can honor the past while building a stronger, more resilient future.
Her message resonated with a powerful reminder:
“Mahalin natin ang Pilipinas—para sa Diyos, sa Bayan, at bawat Pamilyang Pilipino.”
